¡Felices fiestas!


During December, there are different holidays around the world. In some Latin American countries they celebrate the Posadas. Click here to read more about it.
Students loved to listen and sing Dale, dale, dale. Children sing it as they try ro break the piñata during las posadas.

Do you want to celebrate el Día de los Muertos?

The National Museum of Mexican Art will have a special viewing day of the Day of the Dead Exhibition accompanied by arts and hands-on activities on November 1st from 3 to 5pm. Click on the link to find more information!

El día de los muertos

The Hispanic community commemorates el Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, with a celebration that remembers and honors the departed by creating altars decorated with crafts, food and symbolic decorations. The celebration takes place on November 1st and November 2nd.

The National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago (Pilsen) has a Day of the Dead exhibition until December 16.  It has ofrendas, paintings and more. You could also buy your own sugar skull.

¡Celebremos el mes de la Herencia Hispana!

Let's celebrate the Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th- October 15th).  It is the period when people recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States and to celebrate Hispanic Cultural heritage and Hispanic culture.Here are a few suggestions on how you can celebrate with your family!

  • Listen to a radio station in Spanish.
  • Watch a movie in Spanish, it could be your favorite one just change the language.
  • Try a new Hispanic food.
  • Find a news article about a country where people speak Spanish and locate it on a map. 
  • Read an advertisement, label, or packaging in Spanish and figure out what it is about.
  • Share with your family the name of a Spanish-speaking country you would like to visit.  Locate it on a map and learn a fun-fact about the country.
  • Learn 5 new Spanish words and share them with me!

¡Bienvenidos!


Dear families and students,

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!
I am excited to start my 8th year teaching at Irving.
This year, I will be teaching Kindergarten, Second, Third and Fifth grade classes. Remember K-2 have Spanish three times a week, and 3-5 twice a week. 

I am looking forward to a happy and productive school year.
